Common Questions

How long does my hair need to be?

Hair needs at least 1/4″ for effective waxing. This typically requires waiting a minimum or 2 weeks from your last shave. Results will be better the longer you wait.

Does it hurt?

While there is some pain to be associated with waxing, experienced technicians will ensure that your pain is only minor. You can generally expect a stinging sensation after the strip is removed. Frequent waxing causes finer hair and is therefore less painful.

If you are concerned about being sensitive, you can take an ibuprofen or aspirin 30 minutes before your appointment to minimize discomfort.

Do not apply numbing cream. These can interfere with the application of the wax and can sometimes cause allergic reactions.

How often should I come?

Though frequency will vary for each person depending on hair growth, waxing about every 4 weeks will return optimal results. It is important not to shave between waxing appointments as this can make hair more resistant to waxing.

What if I have never waxed?

To prepare for your wax, we recommend exfoliating the area for a few days prior to your appointment. If it is your first time waxing, it is likely that you will experience more discomfort that usual for up to a day after your wax. To decrease discomfort, try to avoid clothing that will rub against the area.

Do not wax for the first time prior to a big event as you can’t always anticipate how your skin will react.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs?

Ingrown hairs occur when thin hairs are unable to push through the skin, creating inflammation. To avoid ingrown hairs, we recommend gently exfoliating 2 to 3 times per week.

Dos and Don’ts of Waxing

  • Take two Advil or ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment – better safe than sorry!
  • Allow 10–14 days of hair growth. If hair is 3/8″ to 1/2″ long, there is less tweezing and more effective hair removal from the wax.
  • Return every three to four weeks and book appointments in advance.

  • Never wax a new area for the first time right before a big event. You can’t always anticipate your skin’s reaction and you wouldn’t want to spoil an important day!
  • Don’t shave between waxing appointments. This makes the hair more resistant to waxing.
  • Don’t expose the skin to sun or tanning beds for 24 hours.

We recommend and carry Nufree Nudesse Finipil, an antiseptic cream for use after and between waxes. Finipil kills bacteria and soothes skin. Dermatologist tested and recommended, Finipil kill 99.999% of germs, reduces redness, prevents infection of the hair follicle and is approved for daily use.
